There is some sedimentation of the channel and it can become a series of pools in dry years. Accessible along its length from a nearby road and it is a popular fishing water. However anglers report that dense bank vegetation of blackberry is common and can make access to the water difficult. Contains brown trout to 2 kg and rainbow trout to 1 kg in the headwaters, with some larger fish downstream.
Also contains two-spined blackfish, redfin and mountain galaxias. Stocked prior to 1995 with Macquarie perch fingerlings and trout cod fingerlings. Last stocked with brown trout in 1995. A self-sustaining population exists.
