The trail is flanked with towering gums en-route to the old railway junction at Cathkin which connects with Alexandra via a spur line, some 13kms away. Between Cathkin and Molesworth the native gums become denser, immersing riders in nature before crossing the Goulburn River into the township of Molesworth.

The quirky town of Yarck offers a great starting point to ride a relatively flat section of the Great Victorian Rail Trail to nearby Molesworth, just over 10kms away.
